Retailing review from Birkenhead & Wallasey ... Page 2
This month a mystery customer from our team focused on the Merseyside area of Birkenhead & Wallasey with each selected depot being asked for prices for an 185/55R 15 82H tyre to fit a 2004 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2. All depots have been scored on a number of areas of professionalism and accompanied by a general brief summary of each individual visit. |
| The Tyrehouse, 21-24 Water Street, Wallasey |
This depot is located deep in a residential area so access and location cannot be judged as brilliant. However the exterior presentation is good with bright and clear signage on display. Unfortunately parking does present a real problem as there is no parking forecourt and customers have to take their chances and park in the surrounding side roads, which are both narrow and very congested.
When I ventured inside the building I was immediately greeted in a friendly manner by a guy who listened to my request for prices before offering a Federal at £ 45.00. He added, “Believe me Federal is a top quality and well respected brand and at the same time very competitively priced.” Strangely though (despite being prompted) I was not offered any other brands for comparison.
I was impressed by this guy's enthusiastic manner. He was smartly dressed and gave me the impression he genuinely wanted to make a sale. Unfortunately the reception and customer waiting area were not of an impressive standard but as this is definitely a tyre shop very much in the 'old fashioned' style it did not seem to matter somehow.
Would I buy tyres from The Tyrehouse? Most certainly because although this depot is not the smartest or most modern in Birkenhead & Wallasey. When it comes to valuable customer service it takes some beating.

| The Tyre Brigade, 7-11 Beaufort Road, Birkenhead |
The location and access for this depot do not present a problem but the exterior presentation could certainly be better. However it must be added that The Tyre Brigade is promoted as part-worn specialist who also offer new tyres.
Parking facilities are fine as apart from space at the side of the building, there is also plenty of parking opportunities on the adjacent roadside. On entering the depot I noticed that a reception and customer waiting area are not really available as once again this is very much an old style tyre shop. But on a more positive note I was acknowledged straight away by a guy who came across as friendly and efficient.
Having listened to my request for tyre prices he said, “Well you have come to the right place mate as we can offer either new or part-worn tyres in that size.” When I explained that I would prefer new tyres he added, “That's fine, we have a number of varying brands of different quality levels ranging from £ 35.00 to
£ 45.00 and I'm sure we can find something you will be happy with. I suggest you bring the car in and we will take it from there.” Quite an impressive sales pitch but strangely I was not actually quoted any brands.
There were several staff on hand and I noticed they were all dressed satisfactorily and although this was not the best visit in terms of facilities. It was certainly of a good standard in concerning customer service and enthusiasm for a sale and on that basis I would certainly consider buying a new tyre from this depot.
