Retailing review from Birkenhead & Wallasey ... Page 3
This month a mystery customer from our team focused on the Merseyside area of Birkenhead & Wallasey with each selected depot being asked for prices for an 185/55R 15 82H tyre to fit a 2004 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2. All depots have been scored on a number of areas of professionalism and accompanied by a general brief summary of each individual visit. |
| Cleveland Tyres, 505 Cleveland Street, Birkenhead |
This was another depot offering both new and part-worn tyres and the exterior of the building was of a satisfactory standard plus access and location were good.
Parking opportunities were also okay as there was ample space at the front of the building.
Yet again I was immediately greeted on entry into what amounted to an old fashioned interior that did not offer much in the way of a reception area or customer waiting room. However the staff member who served me was friendly and obviously keen to make a sale.
I was offered a Kleber at £40.00 fully inclusive and the guy insisted on getting the tyre down from the display racks to actually show me the quality of the tread. I was certainly impressed by his attention to detail and got the impression he had every confidence in the product he was attempting to sell to me.
Taking everything into consideration there is no doubt I would give this depot the opportunity to make a sale in the future.

| St James Tyres, Laird Street, Birkenhead |
This was an extremely busy depot at the time of my visit, which has to be a good initial sign, and certainly the exterior presentation was of a satisfactory standard with clear signage. The location and access do not cause any problems. However parking facilities were not quite so good as I found it difficult to get into the car park at the front of the building due to it being small in relation to the amount of visitors.
However on a more positive note, despite the depot being busy I was offered a good standard of customer service and was acknowledged on entering the reception area and informed I would be served as soon as possible. Whilst waiting I observed that the reception area and customer waiting room were in an acceptable condition and all staff were dressed in a reasonable manner.
I was eventually served by a staff member who appeared bright and cheerful and showed enthusiasm to make a sale. He listened to my enquiry then offered a general price of £ 40.00 fully inclusive for an unnamed budget brand. There was nothing about this depot that I was disappointed in and therefore would buy tyres here in the future.
